Morning Basket – December 2015

Jesse TreeI like to keep our morning basket in December very short, no longer than one hour. The girls and I have too many other fun things that we simply must do 😉

Here are the items that are in our December basket:

ComposerTchaikovsky’s The Nutcracker  Listen during our morning chores or breakfast

Bible/Devotionals – Jesse Tree. We read through Geraldine McCaughrean’s book.

Poetry – read two or three daily from here and memorise A Christmas Carol by G.K. Chesterton

Christmas Carol – Sing all verses to a new one each week, and choose a favourite to review

Memorisation – Scripture passage – Luke 2:1-16. We will read through this passage each day. I don’t expect us to memorise every verse this year, but we will become very familiar with it.

Picture Study – I have printed a few pictures off that relate to Christmas, and every few days we will study and narrate one of these. The girls really love picture study! Click here to see one of the pictures we are enjoying.

Foreign languageJingle Bells in French We have been learning French this year, so to sing a Christmas song in French will be fun.

Read Alouds – Each girl can choose a book from our Christmas book pile for our read aloud.

Handiwork – We are working on a few projects here, crochet, felt decorations, and Fimo decorations. This won’t be daily. We may do this here or later in the day, just depends on what else is happening.

Journal – we have an advent calendar that is made of little wooden boxes in the shape of a Christmas tree. In each box is a thought to provide an idea to journal about. We haven’t ever done more than a few days of this each December past. But the girls really enjoy bringing out their journals and reading what they wrote last year. We will only do this on days we have time.

I hope I have inspired you to add some fun Christmassy things you can do in the mornings. I would love to hear what you have in your Christmas Morning Basket.
